Congratulations to the B team footballers who have had an incredible week, reaching the Greenall Cup final (which will be played at Haig Avenue) and finishing their league season as champions, after winning 10 out of 10 games this season. It is an incredible feat and the players should all be very proud of their achievements.
Our A Team have had a great week competing in 2 cup matches.
The footballers won their Duddy Shield Quarter Final match against OLOL at Birkdale High on Tuesday 19th April. The team played very well on a dry bumpy pitch in warm conditions to book their place in the next stage.
The team fell behind to a goal in the first section of the game as they found it hard to master the tricky conditions. However, as the game progressed, the boys found their form and they eventually triumphed with goals from Rico, Lawrie and a hatrick from Lucas who scored all of his goals in the final portion of the match.
On Thursday, the team followed up this performance with a victory against St Patrick's in the Laurie Parr Trophy Semi Final. The boys won 5-2 which could have been many more but for an excellent opposition keeper. The scorers were Theo (2) Lucas (2) and Jack W. This means that the team have booked a trip to Haig Avenue for the final against Churchtown in mid May.
Special thanks to Mr Walmsley for his management of the team this week. Further mentions to the parents who helped with all the organisation needed to run the games. .
This evening the C team played their semi-final tie against Norwood for a place in the Greenall Cup final at Haig Avenue.
In lovely weather, both teams took part in an energetic game that held lots of chances for both teams. In the end, the Farnborough C came out on top with a 4-0 win after a strong team performance that included fantastic defending from Tristan, Jack, Morgan and Daniel, brilliant goalkeeping from James and three fantastic goals from Eric on his return. To top it all off Morgan bagged a surprise long-range effort for the team's fourth.
Well done to all involved!
