  • Black History Month 2023

    Fri 13 Oct 2023 FRJS

In the UK, Black History Month happens every October.

It gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.

People from African and Caribbean backgrounds have played a huge part in British history but sometimes this has been overlooked.

Children across the school have been looking at important historical characters. Some you will know and some may be new to you.

One of our children has even added a story to YouTube. We checked with his family before sharing to make sure he keeps safe online.

  • Mr Antell to be jailed!

    Fri 08 Sep 2023 FRJS

Queenscourt hospital is at the heart of our local community.

Everyone has a connection with this fabulous resource which supports people when they are at their most vulnerable. It relies on charitable donations to do the essential work that we all need.

I’m supporting their latest fund raising appeal and I need YOUR help!

On Friday 15th September I’m taking part in their Jail and Bail fundraiser. I will be ‘arrested’ for ‘always having the last word’ and sentenced to jail in court. Once jailed, I will only be released once I have raised at least £1000 in bail. I even have to wear a prison uniform for the day!

I’d really appreciate your support as I’d prefer not to be in jail all weekend!!

This is how you can help….

    1. Donate on my Just Giving page for this great cause. It can be found on this link:

    https://www.justgiving.com/page/adrian-antell-1692713805859?newPage=true

    2. Give your children a small amount of money (a pound or two?) and in return I’ll let them have extra play on Friday afternoon whilst I’m in jail.

    3. Finally, share this on social media with your friends and let’s see how much we can raise together for this amazing local charity.

I’ll keep you and your children updated on the progress of the day using dojo etc.

Together we can make a big difference to help so many people in our community.

  • School Survey 2023

    Sun 23 Apr 2023 FRJS

    School Survey 2023

Thank you to every parent who completed the survey at our frecent Parent/Teacher meetings. Over 300 responded thanks to the hard work of our school council and we are very pleased with the results.

The comments written by parents were also very positive. We noted one or tow areas of improvement and we look at these in the coming weeks.

We have also carried our surveys with staff, pupils and governors and we will study all of the feedback and use it to plan for the future.

  • Our Friends from Ghana

    Wed 15 Mar 2023 FRJS

    Our Friend from Ghana

We have been delighted to welcome Francis Ato, the headteacher of Evergreen Blossom Academy, to our school this week.

We have been working with Evergreen for 7 years and this is the first time that Francis has been able to come to our school. He has been hosted by Greenbank High but spent Tuesday and Wednesday at our school. He met the children, talked to staff and spent time in lessons as we continue to build our partnership.

We presented Francis with some fundraising money at assembly on Wednesday. The Friends of FRJS give 5% of their fundraising to Evergreen and this has mounted over the past few years.

Francis plans to use our money to improve displays and help to start and IT facility at Evergreen and maybe some of our pupils will also get to visit his school when they are at Greenbank in the future.

  • Rockstar Day

    Tue 11 Oct 2022 FRJS

On Friday we all dressed as rockstars as we relaunched our use of Times Table Rockstars.

Children should know all of their tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Y4 and we use TTR as a tool to help children learn at home.

A good knowledge of tables is fundamental to maths progress and for several years we have had gold, silver and bronze badges. These have worked well, but now we want to relaunch and encourage children to have a quick recall across all of their tables.

The new badges will be for Tables Stars, Tables Hero and Tables Legends and they will reward quick speeds for the different tables.

Thew children enjoyed the day, but it is essential that they learn their tables to help with their maths work.

Please encourage your child to log on to Times Table Rockstars at home as this will help to make a real difference.

  • Queen Elizabeth II

    Fri 09 Sep 2022 FRJS

Our whole school community is saddened to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

We will mark this event in school today by talking to the children about her momentous life and achievements before joining together for a whole school assembly to show our respects.

Our school flag is flying at half mast this morning.

  • Head for a Day 2022

    Fri 15 Jul 2022 FRJS

Today, one of our Y6 children called Charlie has been our Headteacher.

Charlie won the recent election for the post and today he put his ideas into place.

Today the children have worn non uniform and given to the Shelterbox charity, had a 'no pen day' and been allowed to swap playgrounds. On top of that, he was kind enough to give an ice pop to every child and staff member.

Charlie has been an excellent Head and he should be very proud of the way he has organised a wonderful day for the school.

We are looking forward to next year already!!

  • Latest Covid Advice

    Wed 20 Apr 2022 FRJS

Government advice about Covid changed at the start of this term.

    • It is not recommended that children and young people are tested for COVID-19 unless directed to by a health professional.
    • Children and young people with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough, who are otherwise well, can continue to attend their education setting.
    • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people, where they can. They can go back to school, college or childcare, and resume normal activities when they no longer have a high temperature and they are well enough to attend.
    • If a child or young person has a positive COVID-19 test result they should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day they took the test, if they can.
    • Adults (including school staff) are still advised to stay at home for 5 days after they have given a positive test.

The full guidance can be found on the following link:
    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/people-with-symptoms-of-a-respiratory-infection-including-covid-19
I know that this is another change in guidance that has been hard to follow at times and I would like to thank you for your patience and support throughout this difficult period.

Please contact school in the usual ways if you have any questions.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Mr Antell
