Reading Buddies
Peer mentoring is such a powerful tool. This is why we have introduced Reading Buddies at our school.
Older children, who are more capable readers, have been paired up with younger children who need a little more support with their reading. The role of the reading buddy allows the younger children to see what being fluent looks like as they have a peer model demonstrating reading skills. The older children develop social and emotional skills like patience and empathy as they work with their buddies.
Our Reading buddies will spend time with their reading partners on a regular basis listening to them read, supporting them when they find some words difficult, talking about the books that they have read and asking them questions.
