Welcome to Farnborough Road Junior SchoolBelonging together, learning together, achieving together

Two Important Things

We have enjoyed welcoming the children back to school this morning and everyone has settled into their classroom routines again.

I have two important messages to share.

Firstly, we have started to spend our Covid catch up funding at the start of this term. The money is not huge and we have tried to target it at areas where children have shown gaps.

In Year 5 and 6 we are supporting maths by reducing class size. There are 6 maths groups in both of these years and we have organised them based on need. Most children are still with their class teacher, but a small number who are thriving with maths are being taught in 2 classes taken by Miss Gibbons and Mrs Norton.

In Year 4 we have created one extra maths group and in Year 3 an extra English group. Again, the children who are coming out of class are achieving well and we are looking to support them whilst leaving the class teacher with the majority of the children.

Children have started to attend these this morning and they may come home talking about them. We will contact families with details of this in the next few days, but we want to see how they settle before we make final decisions.

Please be assured that children have NOT been moved because they have a problem or we have a concern.

There will also be some very small group tuition for Y6 maths each afternoon. Again, once this has settled, we will contact the families concerned with the full details.

Secondly, please be aware of an inappropriate video that is circulating on social media. School firewalls will keep it out, but the video apparently shows an adult causing harm to himself and is quite distressing. I believe it is on TikTok, Twitter and other platforms.

If you child uses social media, you will want to make sure they are safe from seeing this video.

Remember, we always have up to date information about online safety on our school website.
