Farnborough - Liverpool Cup - Southport's Champions

Farnborough A Team entered the tournament as defending Southport and Merseyside Liverpool Cup champions - no pressure then!!

Farnborough 1 - 0 Norwood

Our opening group game against Nowood B saw the team completely dominate the 7 minute match but were frustrated as they failed to take numerous chances. Finally deadlock was broken by Rhys as he cut into the box and his deflected shot made it 1-0. Our keeper Callum didn't actual touch the ball and our defence spent most of the game on the halfway line. 3 points in the bag!

Farnborough 3 - 0 St.Lukes

Second match saw a similar pattern of domination by Farnborough against St.Lukes, however this time the boys were able to capitalize on their chance with Ivo scoring the first and Oli scoring a further 2.

Farnborough 1 - 0 Linaker A

The final group game saw Jamie score his first goal of the competition which proved to be decisive and give the team a 100 percent record in their group and not a goal conceded.

Semi-Final

Farnborough 3 - 0 Norwood

A re-match of last Friday's league game saw Farnborough take on Norwood in the semi-final. With Rhys confined to the side-lines through injury, the team had to re-shuffle positions which saw Arthur moving wide on the left. This seemed to work well with Arthur scoring 2 before half-time and Arthur sealed the victory with another clean strike to grab himself a hat-trick and a place in the final.

Southport Schools' Liverpool Cup Final

Farnborough 2-0 Our Lady of Lourdes

A tense final saw another re-shuffle with the starting line-up of Callum in goal, Joe and Kai at the back, Will central, Oli and Arthur wide and Ivo playing up front. With Farnborough dominating the final, OLOL were forced to tackle hard and defend to their best. However the ball broke on the edge of the box and Arthur hit an incredible left shot that smashed into the top right hand corner of the goal.

This led to OLOL pushing hard for an equaliser and Jamie was able to pounce on a mistake at the back to make it 2-0. OlOl went on the offensive and Daniel was to provide the moment that turned the match when he pulled off a wonder save from the Our Lady's striker, he followed this up a minute later with another fine save to deny OLOL.

Moments later the whistle blew and Farnborough were crowned champions!

Congratulations to every member of the squad who all contributed to our victory. Special mention to Rhys Graham who became the first player to win this tournament 3 times!
