  • Ghana 2016

    Sun 14 Feb 2016 FRJS

Two of our staff, Mr Antell and Mrs Johnstone, have returned from a trip to Ghana where they worked with our partner school, The Evergreen Blossom Academy.

Children from Farnborough Road completed a piece of work which was taken to our partner school to share. In return, three of the older classes did similar pieces of work which will be shared in our classes. In addition, we took a wide selection of resources which were collected on our Ghana Day. We also presented a large copy of the photograph of the 'human flag' that we made on the same day.

We hope to help the school in Ghana, but we also hope that they can help us. The children have a huge pride and respect for their school, community and country which we hope to share at Farnborough Road.

Some of the photos that we took on the trip can be seen below.

We will use many of the things that we discovered in the coming weeks and months so that this partnership can continue in the future.

  • Love My Community

    Sun 14 Feb 2016
Thank you so much to the pupils, parents and staff of FRJS who helped us to take part in the Love My Community day. Schools all over Southport took part in this project by holding a MUFTI day and our children brought in tins and packets of food to donate to the Southport Food Bank. We were overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity and our stage is full of donations which will be taken to the food bank after half term. Thank you
  • Farnborough - Everton Premier League Champions for Sefton

Sun 07 Feb 2016 Nick Hanlon

On Friday Farnborough took part in the Sefton round of the Everton F.C. Premier League Competition held in Netherton and the Goals football centre.

The boys began their league matches with a solid performance against a tough Green Park, especially their number 8! Winning their opening game 2-0 with strikes from Theo and Lucas.

Our second match versus Thomas Gray, saw goals from Rico(2) and Lucas secure a 3-0 victory. 6 points in the bag and top of our group.

The next match saw the group's two teams with a hundred percent win record take on each other. Farnborough changed formation, rolled up their sleeves and went toe to toe with a skilled and physical opposition, Valewood. The boys worked incredibly hard and saw a reward in their team efforts with a 2-0 victory. A superb left-foot strike from Theo and a calmly slotted goal from Lucas brought victory and secured a place in the semi-finals. Our defence Jack W, Rhys and Lawrie were superb and Jack F pulled off some excellent saves.

The final league game saw Bailey starting up front and helping secure a 6-0 win over Freshfield Primary. Rico and Theo (Rio and Thico) both scored two each and Bailey and Rhys scored their first goals of the day. Farnborough topped the group with full points and not a single goal conceded. A fabulous effort from our goalie Jack F and our defensive team of Jack W, Lawrie and Rhys.

Farnborough took their superb form into their semi-final, completely outplaying their opponents St. Robert Bellarmine School (Bootle). The final score was 7-0 with goals from Lucas(2), Rhys(2), Theo(2) and Bailey.

The final saw a re-match against Valewood who had won their semi-final 5-0. Both teams put everything into a superb final. It was closely contested with strong challenges and high quality football. Once again it was Farnborough who gained the upper-hand with another quality strike from Theo. Deep into the second half Lucas repeated his earlier efforts with a calmly taken goal to make it 2-0. However Valewood managed to snatch a goal (though it was a questionable decision) and with moments to go Jack F pulled of an unbelievable save that surely won the match for Farnborough. Final score 2-1 and the boys were champions!

Both their manager and all the parents were incredibly proud of the boys achievements. The boys really raised the level of their game and it was truly a whole squad effort. The boys now go onto the finals at Finch Farm and a chance to play in the national finals of the Premier League Tournament.

  • Bake Off 2016

    Thu 04 Feb 2016

Next week we will launch the FRJS 2016 Bake Off in aid of Sport Relief.  The children will receive details in assembly next week. We will be welcoming back Niki from The LemonTree Bakery and Derek Klaassen from The Dutch Bakery back as our judges, alongside our resident baker, Mrs Ainley.  Last year was a huge success and we raised a considerable amount of money towards Comic Relief as well as tasting some marvellous creations made by our children.  The children who would like to take part are to bring their cupcake or fairy cake to be judged on Wednesday 9th March and the Grand Final will take place on Wednesday 16th March.

So...on your marks, get set and bake in aid of Sport Relief.

  • 2016 - A Year of Reading at FRJS

    Wed 03 Feb 2016 FRJS

    2016 The Year of Reading

2016 and Farnborough Juniors are celebrating the Year of Reading. Throughout the Year we are promoting a love for reading and encouraging all pupils to enjoy books, stories, comics, magazines and literature.

There have been a range of activities organised and January has seen a very successful start.

Each classroom has designed their own reading corner, to allow the children to relax and enjoy reading away from their desks. The themes have ranged from comfortable fireplaces to exotic beach huts, and all children have visibly enjoyed using them daily. Pictures of these can be seen below.

Every class has received an additional £50 to spend on books. 5 classes received £100 for exceptional effort. These were 3/2, 3/3, 4/4, 5/4 and 6/2.

A weekly reading competition has seen an improvement in home reading this month, and the hope is that this continues throughout the year. Every night a child reads for 10 minutes, they receive a bead on their reading bracelet. Reading scores are totalled and the winning class receives emoji cushions and they are first to go for lunch, where they sit on a specially selected table.

Now we are into February, there are a brand new set of activities and competitions planned, that the children and staff are all looking forward to.

We are asking all pupils to bring in a picture of themselves reading their favourite book or in their favourite place. These pictures will be added to our “Selfie Story” wall. Pupil’s are also going to be hunting for a magical golden ticket within their reading books. The lucky recipient of the golden ticket will get to take part in a special “Golden Breaktime” where they will be given treats and drinks in our Rainbow Room.

We are sure this is all helping children foster a life-long love of reading and enjoyment of books.
