  • Cross country March 2018

Mon 19 Mar 2018 Ellie Ireland

On Wednesday 14 th March we took 34 year 5 & year 6 to their first cross country competition. We have been training every week through the cold winter months for this, each week working on our own times and trying to beat them.

The competition was held at Birkdale Common. It was a great afternoon despite the bitter wind and freezing cold temperatures, all children participated and gave it their all, including cheering on their other team mates!

The competition started with Year 5 girls, followed by Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and finally Year 6 boys. We are so proud of all the children who competed especially the sprint finishes every child managed at the end of their own races.

We had some fantastic resuts Tianna Chambers came 2nd overall in the Year 5 girls race out of over 85 girls, Levi Seddon Davidson came a smashing 1st in the year 5 boys race out of 115 boys with only 1 second between him and 2nd place.

We also managed to get 1st place in both the year 5 girls and boys races meaning the 1st four boys and girls back in that race for our school got themselves a medal. Well done to Tianna Chambers, Isla Harvey, Jasmine Kneen and Freya Dobson for the girls team, and the boys Levi Seddon Davidson, William Rothwell, Charlie Ireland and Rhys Bradshaw.

To top it off we also mananged to win the Challenge trophy, this trophy is awarded to only one school out of the whole the competition and its the first time we have managed to win it!

Well done to every single child who participated, it was a tough, cold course and you all gave it your all, showing determination and putting into practise everything you have trained hard for! Well done.
