  • NETBALL A TEAM

Wed 25 May 2016 Mrs Coupland

Tonight the Netball A Team played in the end of season tournament for teams that finished in 1st and 2nd place across the leagues in the Southport area.

The team had to play five games, each only six minutes long. We had a fantastic start with a 7-0 win against Larkfield. We were straight into our next game, winning against Holy Family 6-0. After a short rest we then had to play three consecutive games. The girls followed their strong start with a 8-0 win against St Phillips. This was followed by a 7-2 win against Churchtown. It was all down to the final game against OLOL. They had already drawn one of their games so we just needed a draw. The game was extremely close. Each time a team took a centre pass it resulted in that team getting a goal. With the ball near our end the final whistle was blown and OLOL took the win with a score of 4-5.

It was a outstanding team performance. To score 31 goals in 30 minutes of game time is an amazing achievement. The girls came away with two silver medals each, one for second place in the tournament and one for second place in the league.

It was decided on the day that there should be a special award for 'Outstanding performance', this went to Sofie Jones. Her performance and shooting ability had been recognised by so many people during the tournament. Well done to our fantastic captain.

The girls should be extremely proud of their performance across the season. It has been a pleasure to have a team that always show great sportsmanship and commitment. I'm very proud of you all.

Lastly, a huge thank you to all the parents who have helped with lifts, supported the team and put up with many last minute cancellations due to bad weather.

  • Victoria Park 1 mile run

    Wed 18 May 2016

On Wednesday 18th May we took 17 year 5 and 6 children to compete in the 1 mile race, organised by Southport and Waterloo. It was a great night and all the children who took part showed great determination and team spirit. We were particularly successful with Year 5 boys who managed to come 3rd as a team: Arthur Weights, Rhys Graham, Ivo Melyov and Edward Sandys. Our year 6 girls also came 3rd as a team : Chloe Sutton, Millie Ireland, Bethan Kirwan and Marni Gilmour. We were extremely proud of the whole team, most staying and cheering each other on in the other races. Well done you should all be proud of your achievement.

The team put in two great performances against Birkdale Primary and Churchtown to claim the cup double at the home of Southport FC. Both performances were full of great team play, goals and commitment and the team should be very proud of their achievements.

  • Greenall Cup Final - B vs C Team

Wed 11 May 2016 Mr Brewer and Mr Spall

Tonight saw FRJS's B and C football teams go head to head in the Southport School's Greenall Cup Final. The teams had both fought hard to reach the final and were rewarded with a trip to Southport FC's ground, Haig Avenue.

The first half started at a ferocious pace. With chances for both sides. The C team came very close to scoring three times, however magnificant saves from Daniel kept the C team off the score sheet. Just as the half was about to end, the B team then worked a well crafted goal (courtesy of Oliver) to go one up.

The second half was much the same with chances for both teams. However the B team were well set up for their corners, taking advantage of their heading skills with a goal at the far post to lead 2-0.

The final sections saw the B team grab few extra goals to secure the victory. The C team kept the B team honest throughout, as Daniel again made some heroic saves to stop Eric from scoring.

The match was played with a fantastic spirit, enthusiasm and attitude from all, who were a credit to FRJS. Well done boys and girls!
