  • Sign Language Show from Hands

    Wed 18 Apr 2018 FRJS
For the last 10 weeks a group of Y3 pupils have been busy learning British Sign Language with Ian Duncan and a team from the 'Hands' Project. The children have learnt how to sign their names, animals, colours, feelings and three favourite songs. On Tuesday they performed to an appreciative audience of parents and Y3 pupils and staff and shared what they had learnt.
They all did incredibly well and had a great time. We are really proud of all of them for what they have achieved. Thank you to Ian and the team for giving our children such a fantastic opportunity.
  • A Day for Debra

    Sat 14 Apr 2018 FRJS

We had a great day raising money for Mr Antell's London Marathon charity, Debra which works hard to help children who suffer from the skin disorder called EB.

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a group of genetic skin conditions which cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.

Those born with EB have skin so fragile they are called 'butterfly children' – their skin is quite simply as fragile as the wing of a butterfly.

Painful open wounds and sores form where this exceptionally fragile skin is damaged – in some cases, internal linings and organs are also affected.

The children wore 'scruffy' uniform in ways to annoy Mr Antell, who loves neat and tidy uniform! The children also paid to 'stick' Mr Antell to the playground wall with gaffer tape. They did such a good job that when he the box he was standing on was pulled away, he was left dangling in the air!

The day raised about £800 and the children also now have a really good understanding of this disease.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this day a big success.

  • Visit to Y5 from Presfield High School Pupils

Wed 11 Apr 2018 Mrs Finch
Our Year 5 classes were delighted to welcome two 6th form students from Presfield High School who came to talk about autism and what it means to them. They gave us a very interesting talk and answered lots of questions as well. They were very good presenters and were friendly and informative and we learned a lot about autism. Thank you for coming to speak to us.
  • Cross country March 2018

Mon 19 Mar 2018 Ellie Ireland

On Wednesday 14 th March we took 34 year 5 & year 6 to their first cross country competition. We have been training every week through the cold winter months for this, each week working on our own times and trying to beat them.

The competition was held at Birkdale Common. It was a great afternoon despite the bitter wind and freezing cold temperatures, all children participated and gave it their all, including cheering on their other team mates!

The competition started with Year 5 girls, followed by Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and finally Year 6 boys. We are so proud of all the children who competed especially the sprint finishes every child managed at the end of their own races.

We had some fantastic resuts Tianna Chambers came 2nd overall in the Year 5 girls race out of over 85 girls, Levi Seddon Davidson came a smashing 1st in the year 5 boys race out of 115 boys with only 1 second between him and 2nd place.

We also managed to get 1st place in both the year 5 girls and boys races meaning the 1st four boys and girls back in that race for our school got themselves a medal. Well done to Tianna Chambers, Isla Harvey, Jasmine Kneen and Freya Dobson for the girls team, and the boys Levi Seddon Davidson, William Rothwell, Charlie Ireland and Rhys Bradshaw.

To top it off we also mananged to win the Challenge trophy, this trophy is awarded to only one school out of the whole the competition and its the first time we have managed to win it!

Well done to every single child who participated, it was a tough, cold course and you all gave it your all, showing determination and putting into practise everything you have trained hard for! Well done.
