London Trip 1
Thu 12 Nov 2015The first group of 50 Y5 children from 5/2 and 5/3 had a fabulous trip to London. Photos can be found below.
The trip comprised the following:-
LONDON 2015 – DAY 1
- Arrive at school at 7am. Leave FRJS at 7:30 prompt
- Hopefully arrive at London Science Museum around 12:30
- Natural History Museum
- Pizza Hut (6:30 – 8:00) (Located in Canada Water)
- Arrive at Thameside YHA, Rotherhithe (8:30 approx)
LONDON 2015 – DAY 2
- Breakfast in hostel
- Leave Hostel (9:00-9:30)
- London Eye (10:00 – 11:00)
- Tower of London (12:30 – 4:30)
- Arrive at Rainforest Café (5:00)
- At the theatre to see Matilda (Cambridge Theatre) Show starts 7:30
- Back to Hostel (10:30 approx)
LONDON 2015 – DAY 3
- Breakfast in hostel
- Leave Hostel (9:00-9:30)
- Walking Tour starting at Parliament Square and ending at Buckingham Palace
- LEAVE LONDON (12:00)
- Arrive in Southport (6 – 7pm approx)

Remembrance Day
Wed 11 Nov 2015Remembrance Day - we marked this important event with a two minutes silence to remember the fallen of the First and Second World Wars and other conflicts. the children attended special assemblies where they found out about the significance of the poppy falling WW1.
Some children wrote Remembrance poems linked to the event. Throughout the month we have been selling poppies and wrist bands to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

We are proud of you Jake!
Fri 23 Oct 2015Jake in Y6 decided he wanted to raise money for Teenage and Child Cancer Charities so he asked to dye his hair pink for the day in return for donations!
Children and staff have given him money and as a result, Jake thinks he has raised over £470!
We are very proud of you Jake but we think we prefer you with the normal colour!!

Tag Rugby Victory
Thu 22 Oct 2015Farnborough went unbeaten in winning the inaugural Churchtown Tag Rugby Tournament that was organised to celebrate the Rugby World Cup.The team of boys and girls from Y5 and 6 won five matches at the event. This included a victory over the superb Churchtown 'A' Team and a hard fought draw against Our Lady Of Lourdes.The team have had a busy start to the new year with some excellent performances by the mixed age teams at Merchant Taylors' and the Year3/4 teams at KGV.We are very proud of the team and we think there are many great things ahead!

Save the Children Appeal

Thank you to everyone who has supported our harvest Appeal for the Save the Children charity. We have been really impressed with the way that the children have taken this appeal to their hearts and the money that has been raised will make a real difference.
We made boxes with the children and asked each child to talk to their friends and family about the crisis. Each box has a place for our children to write their own message to the children who we are trying to help.
In total we managed to raise a fabulous £1080 And this money will be sent immediately to the charity.

Cookery Club Update
Thu 22 Oct 2015The first groups 6 week block finished this week with the children designing and making their own Pizza. The children have worked hard over the 6 weeks and have learnt new cookery skills, learnt about food hygiene and most importantly made some delicious dishes! Hopefully they will keep up the enthusiasm and carry on cooking at home. The next 6 week block begins after half-term. Thank you to Pizza & Co for providing the Pizza Boxes for the children to take their finished Pizzas home in and thank you also to all the staff in the kitchens for cooking our Pizzas for us!

A Team - Champions!
Wed 21 Oct 2015E.F.C. and E.S.F.A. Tournament
The A team were taking part in the Southport and Formby Schools' Tournament. This is joint competition run by Everton F.C. Academy and the English Schools' F.A.
The boys opening game saw Farnborough dominating play against Kew Woods, playing passing football and creating chances but failing to break the dead-lock. With time running out Kew Woods broke and nearly scored, the ball striking the past, bouncing off our defender and Bailey on hand to stop an own goal! Farnborough pressed for the win and finally the ball broke in the box from a corner and Adam scored his first goal of the season. 1 nil and three points in the bag!
Match 2 was against Ainsdale C.E. with Patric and Jack playing their first game of the tournament. (Patric had stepped in to help once again with Lucas going home sick in the afternoon) Once again the team were outplaying their opponents however this time their passing was far more accurate. A brilliant move starting with Lawrie, passing to Theo who spread it wide to the right wing, saw Rhys break in to the box and smash in the opening goal. Further moves saw another great move involving Rhys, Lawrie and Theo who crossed to Rico, unfortunately he managed to head over the empty net with goal beckoning! Once again Rico was put in from the left but struck the post - it wasn't to be his match for scoring! Result 1 nil to Farnborough.
Final group game saw a tight encounter against Our Lady of Lourdes. Theo, Rhys and Jack all went close with good efforts but it was Our Ladys who were to score first. The boys continued to work hard to get back on level terms and Bailey made a number of further saves in goal as the match ebbed and flowed. Final result a 1 nil loss but the boys still progressed through as group winners.
Our semi-final against Birkdale witnessed Farnborough's best football of the afternoon with Rhys opening the scoring and Rico finally getting a goal he deserved. A comfortable 2 nil victory and a place in the final against Our Lady of Compassion from Formby.

Farnborough looked organised and were working hard against a strong opposition, creating chances up front but unable to quite finish off! Farnborough's passing was accurate, with purpose and it was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken and it fell to a very calm Theo to open his goal account for the day. With the lead secured the team defended resolutely and victory secured as the whistle blew. Unfortunately with such a tight final Patric and Adam remained unused substitutes but their contributions were fully appreciated in the rest of the tournament.
The boys are now double champions and a number of the boys (Lawrie, Rhys, Rico and Bailey) have done this in back to back seasons - an incredible achievement!
Farnborough will now play in the Year 6 finals at Everton's Finch Farm and in the Merseyside E.S.F.A. county finals later in the year.
The boys should once again be extremely proud of their achievements and the manner in which they represented the school - well done.

B team Vs C Team

Wow...what a game!! The B and C teams played out an exciting end to end game on Wednesday night. Both teams playing some fantastic football and all played in a great spirit. The spectators were enthralled in the action, well apart from Mr Brewer and Mr Spall who watched on nervously. The B team were eventual winners but everybody who was involved should be very proud with how they played and the manner in which the game was undertaken. Well done!

A Team v Larkfield
Sun 18 Oct 2015Normal service was resumed on Friday night, after the A Team's last match against Churchtown, with a 10 nil victory over Larkfield.
Our opening formation was:

The team started brightly, creating chance after chance, with Bailey and Theo working hard on the wings and Lawrie securing the middle of the pitch. However Larkfield defended resolutely and actually forced Jack in to a save as they counter-attacked. Adam and Rico had kept things tight at the back and with the stopwatch on 14 minutes - the score was 0-0 - one minute later Lucas had bagged 2 great goals and the half finished with Farnborough 2 nil ahead.

Once again Farnborough dominated with Jack W working hard in midfield, Rhys and Theo continued creating havoc out wide and Arthur and Patric passing out from the back. It was through Bailey's hard work, pace and endeavor that he created several chances in front of goal and with a cool head he slotted in 2 goals. Theo broke in to the box from the left and smashed a well deserved goal that nearly broke the back of the net and Bailey completed his hat-trick with a great run and finish. Farnborough 6 nil up.

As the team continued to play free-flowing, passing football their dominance began to show, even though Larkfield were refusing to let their heads drop. Jack broke in to the box and bagged his first of the game and Lucas completed his hat-trick with another accomplished strike. Further breaks saw Rico, Patric and Arthur venturing forward and Rico getting his first goal of the game. Rhys replaced Lawrie and finished the scoring off with a long range block buster to make the final score 10 nil.
It was a brilliant team performance with every squad member contributing to a wonderful exhibition of passing. A very proud manager and set of parents and family enjoyed watching such an entertaining match.

Girl's Football Tournament
Sat 17 Oct 2015The Girls Football team gave another great account of themselves on Thursday, at the Sefton Girls Competition.
In a tough group, consisting of St Phillips, Birkdale and OLOL, the girls battled bravely in all 3 games, drawing them each 0-0.
With smaller teams and shorter games, breakthroughs were hard to make, although we had a number of chances in each game.
Emily made a string of fantastic saves in our 2nd game, and Abbey made a goal saving tackle in the last minute to have everyone on the touchline clapping.
The wins will come soon enough, as our hard work deserves!
