Farnborough v Linaker
13th March
Southport Premier League (Away)
The final game of the league season for the A Team saw them knowing a win would secure the league title. However with two members of the squad unable to play it looked like we might have to forfeit the points as we only had 9 players. However Oscar’s younger brother, Eric, an ever present supporter accepted the challenge of playing for the team. This was the first time in over twenty years, possibly ever, that a boy from Year 3 would represent the A Team!
The first period saw a revised line-up with Bailey in goal, Kian and Ben in defence, Lucas and Rhys in midfield, Oscar up front and Captain for the day, George out of goal and playing on the wing. The team opened up with some confident passing, moving around the pitch and frustrating their opponents. The first chance of the game was created by a great run from George, who crossed to Oscar, who saw his effort blocked. George then hit a sweet strike only to see it go just over the crossbar. The opener came from a Rhys throw in to Oscar who calmly rounded the keeper. Shortly after we saw Lucas go close with two great runs and George making the Linaker pull off a fine save. Oscar then finished off a move, started from the back by Kian and Ben, smashing it in to the Linaker goal. Oscar made it a first half hat-trick with a through ball from Lucas sending him one on one with the keeper and there was only one result – 3 nil to Farnborough!
The second period had a line-up of Dana and Lawrie in defence, Lucas, Ben and Eric (making his debut) in midfield and Captain George leading the line and hoping to score. The quality of the passing continued to be of the highest standard and Ben, Lucas and George all created chances only to see an in form Linaker keeper pull off a string of stunning saves. Eric found himself coping well and showing no signs of nerves as he competed with challenges and runs. His hard work and endeavour was rewarded with his first goal and possibly becoming the youngest player ever to score for the A team. George looked certain to score as he broke down the middle only to see his thunderbolt shot blocked by the brave Linaker goalie.
The third period saw the boys re-organise the team themselves with Bailey still in goal, Oscar in defence, Kian, Rhys and Dana in midfield, with Lawrie and Eric up front. The team continued to play fluent, flowing football and their passing was stunning. The team totally dominated creating many chances, however I was a Thompson double act that created the next goal. Oscar won the ball at the back and passed to Rhys, who then set Eric up to score his second of the game. Moments later Lawrie and Eric combined to allow Eric to match his brother and bag his own hat-trick! The final goal of the came as Dana broke in to the box and smashed home to make the final score 7 nil and secure the league title.
The boys should be extremely proud of the manner in which they played the game and are worthy Southport Premier League Champions 2014-15.
Red Nose Day was a great success with so many great costumes!
Boys as girls, girls as boys, animals, horses...

Congratulations to our two athletics teams who have been competing in heats over the past couple of weeks
Our B team came third in their heat at Stanley last Tuesday evening whilst our A team won their heat against Churchtown and Norwood last Monday
The A team went forward to the final that was held at Stanley on 11/3/15 and the team performed brilliantly, winning the event convincingly despite being up against 5 other local schools. All of the children performed at their very best and their sportsmanship was exemplary.
The team now go forward to the Merseyside Indoor Athletics Final which will be held in Widnes on Friday 20th March 2015.
Thanks to everyone for their help with lifts and the great support at all of these events and we hope that some of you will be able to come next week too!

The trees looked magnificent in the church and we look forward to seeing them again in the coming days.
Over 150 shoeboxes crammed full of goodies started their journey to Eastern Europe on Friday 12th December.
The programme, co-ordinated by The Rotary Club, inspired many families to participate and make a difference to a child or young person in another country. Children from Y3 helped load the boxes, making sure they didn't drop them!
Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign.
Farnborough Merseyside Champions
On a cold and wintery afternoon in St.Helens Farnborough became Merseyside E.S.F.A. County Champions for the second time in three seasons. In the 6th outing for Farnborough Football Teams this year, once again saw success for the school, yet again completing a competition undefeated. The team will now represent Merseyside in the Northern Counties finals early in the spring.
The afternoon began with a convincing 2 nil victory over Holy Rosary(Maghull), both goals coming from our top scorer Oscar Thompson. George Brain pulled off two great saves- one in each half and Kian Champion looked solid at the back.
Match two saw us playing joint group leaders St Jeromes from Formby. Rico Seddon-Davidson opened the scoring with a tricky run and curling left foot finish. Lucas Balshaw worked hard in centre midfield making some crucial tackles and setting up further opportunities for Oscar T and Rhys Graham. Bailey McDonald in goal for this game was able to tip over a long range free kick from the St Jerome’s striker and Oscar made it 2 nil with a well taken strike.
Final group game against Park Brow(Kirkby) saw Ben Wareing taking over in defence and Dana Amaral moving in to midfield. The team began playing some of their best football of the afternoon with some excellent passing, breaks down the wing and lots of possession. Lawrie Woods had covered every inch of the pitch over the afternoon and scored a well deserved goal, finishing off a six pass move by Farnborough. Oscar scored his fourth of the afternoon and Rico made it 3-1 with another classy finish.
As group winners Farnborough took on the runners-up from group A, Bedford Road(Bootle). The game saw Farnborough take an early lead through Oscar and should have made it 2 nil when Lawrie hit the crossbar. However Bedford equalised late on and despite Farnborough’s best efforts throughout the ensuing extra-time - the game remained 1-1 and the whistle blew for penalties. Each team scored their first four and a further 3 sudden death penalties, before every player stepped up to take a second: Oscar, Lucas, Dana, Rico, Lawrie, Kian and Ben all scored once again! Finally after 15 successful attempts by Farnborough, George stretched out to save the Bedford attempt and the team were through to the final 15-14 on penalties!
The final saw a group rematch with Holy Rosary and a tense match followed. Farnborough worked hard to gain an advantage and eventually Dana sent in a free kick that Oscar expertly headed beyond the opposition's keeper. Our defence then worked over time with Dana, Rhys, Lawrie and Ben all making crucial tackles and blocks, with the final touch of the game by Kian blocking a last ditch shot.
Farnborough once again became Merseyside champions and every member of the team should be proud of the hard work and commitment in their achievement – roll on the Northern Finals!
