B team league winners
Fri 01 May 2015League Champions! Congratulations to the B team on a fantastic league season, in which they had a perfect record of 7 wins out of 7. The team scored 31 goals and conceded only 3. The dedication and commitment of this team has been superb and it has been fantastic to watch them develop over the season. Well done.

Another Trophy for the A Team
Mon 27 Apr 2015The A Team completed their Southport Schools' football season with yet another success - the Laurie Parr Trophy.
The score was 6-1 against Churchtown with Oscar Thompson scoring five goals, including the perfect hat-trick (left foot, right foot & header) and Ben Wareing smashing in one of his specials in the final seconds of the match.
Well done boys - a great way to finish.

C Team win at Churchtown
Sat 25 Apr 2015The C team played a friendly match against local rivals Churchtown on Friday evening.
The game was played in high spirits by both teams, with many chances to score for both sides. In the end, Farnborough Road came out victorious with a 3-0 win.Our players put some excellent passing move together to produce goals from Kelvin Ibrahim, Naveen Naidoo and Harry Conway.
A fantastic team performance!

Year 5 Finch Farm Success
Thu 23 Apr 2015Congratulations to the Year 5 footballers who represented our school at Finch Farm (Everton's training facilities). The boys won the right to represent Southport and Formby back in October by winning their regional tournament. On the day, they were playing against some excellent talent from all across the North West, but proved a match for all of them. They played fantastically well, and didn't concede a single goal on route to winning the group. The boys will now play in a North West final at Goodison Park on Thursday 28th May.

Tag Rugby Champions 2015
Wed 01 Apr 2015Congratulations to our school Rugby teams who performed very well in the Tag Rugby Competition on Tuesday. Our B team performed very well before exiting the event before the final stages. Our A team played brilliantly and won the event to cap an excellent sporting few days for the school. Well done to both teams. Pictures have been added below.

Treasure Island
Tue 31 Mar 2015Every child enjoyed the production of Treasure Island in school today. The play, paid for by the Friends of FRJS was outstanding and the children really enjoyed the spectacle.

Farnborough - Double Merseyside Champions

Friday 27th March
A third high level tournament in the space 6 days for the Farnborough Road team and a place at Anfield at stake (or so we thought). The boys returned to the venue where they had become Merseyside E.S.F.A. champions back in December and they were determined to put disappointments behind them.
The day didn’t start out well with some missing kit for one of the players and when we arrived there seemed to be some confusion over our entry. There had obviously been some mis-communication and thankfully common sense prevailed and the team were entered in the competition.
Our first league game was against Rainford C.E. Champions from Rainford and despite playing well and creating a number of chances through Rhys creating havoc on the left wing, it was goalless at half time. The second half began badly with Farnborough conceding from a corner. This spurred the team in to action and with seconds to go live-wire Rhys smashed in a well deserved equaliser.
Match two was against West Lancs Champions – St Annes. Unfortunately Kian had sustained an injury in our opening game which was to end his involvement for the remainder of the day, however Lawrie stepped in to defence to partner Dana for all of the remaining matches. Rico was finally dressed and ready for action, Ben came in to midfield and Bailey stepped in to goal for George. The team started brightly and scored through goal machine Oscar, his 49th of the season! Farnborough looked in total domination and both Rico and Oscar looked certain to increase the lead however it was St Annes who scored against the flow of play and could have taken lead until Bailey tipped a rasping shot over the bar. Final score 1-1 but the team should really have recorded a win.
Match 3 was against well known opposition, Bootle Champions – Bedford Road. We beat them 15-14 in the semi-final at St Helens, back in December and had lost to them in the semi-final of the EFC Premier League Tournament in Kirkdale. The match saw Farnborough determined to play well and Lucas was asserting himself in midfield. Challenges flew in and the boys weathered the long ball tactics to outplay their opponents. Rhys suffered a kick to head and Oscar was caught a blow in the stomach but the team refused to buckle and the match ended nil nil.
After some deliberation the team were told they were group winners (which we had already worked out!) on goals scored, as all matches in the group had been draws, 2 teams had scored one goal each and Bedford Road had failed to score in any game. There were play offs in both groups to determine semi-finalist, with one going to 10-9 in a penalty shoot out. All this meant that the Farnborough team had to hang around for half an hour.
Finally at 4pm Farnborough took on Westvale County Primary from Kirkby. Unfortunately Rhys was suffering from his head injury, unable to play and Dana was carrying a sore leg but decided he would play through the pain. Once again, Farnborough looked a quality team, passing the ball round and Oscar managed to grab the vital goal to take the lead – his 50th of the season! Another injury, this time to Rico, saw Bailey step in and full of energy he put in a number of runs down the wing. Lucas looked a certainty to make it to make it 2-0 but Westvale’s keeper blocked the shot. With some resolute defending from Lawrie, Dana and George in gaol the final whistle blew and Farnborough were in to the final.
The final saw us replaying St.Annes who had won their semi-final. Both teams looked a little tired but Farnborough’s ‘walking wounded’ seemed the more determined. Rico and Rhys were back on the wings and Lucas was holding his own in centre midfield. Oscar was sent clear and broke the deadlock, one nil as half time came. The second half saw Lucas limp off and Bailey return. The team battled together as Westvale tried in vain to score – Oscar was back in defence helping out the ever-present Dana and Lawrie, whilst George pulled off a number of vital saves. The final whistle blew and Farnborough were Merseyside Liverpool Cup champions.
Both teams lined up for their medals thinking they had earned the right to replay an epic final at Anfield, only to hear that Liverpool F.C. are unable to accommodate the Liverpool Cup this season. Such a disappointment for both sets of players to have their hopes dashed. Hopefully the competition will be a success at the Liverpool Academy but not quite the conclusion to the season the team had hoped.
Farnborough are now double Merseyside Champions – Liverpool Cup and English Schools’ F.A. competitions. A fabulous achievement that is very rare, however well deserved. The team have played some incredibly tough games in the space of 6 days against County and Regional Champions. Not once have they been outplayed and each member of the squad should be very proud of their contribution – the school, families, Southport and Merseyside have wonderful champions.

A Team at Finch Farm

Wednesday 25th March
Another sunny day and another day out for the A team, this time to Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm in Halewood. This was the area winners finals, with teams coming from all over Merseyside and Lancashire.
Our opening game saw the team playing Prescot Primary School and an early goal from top scorer Oscar Thompson settled the team down. With matches only 10 minutes it was vital to get an early goal. The score was doubled as Rico hit a clean left foot volley from a long throw by Dana. The match finished 2 nil and a great opening to the competition.
Match 2 was a rematch from Saturday’s tournament against Westbrook Old Hall. Farnborough were looking in control and created a number of chances, whilst George in goal watched from afar. However with a missed tackle from a throw in led to Westbrook making their only shot on target and unfortunately it went in. Despite continued domination Farnborough couldn’t manage to grab an equalising goal and it finished with a 1 nil defeat. A very unlucky result and not deserved.
Third game was against Poulton Lancelyn Primary School and Farnborough wanted a win. The team played some excellent football and hit the post twice and the crossbar but couldn’t get that vital goal. A goal-less draw which was disappointing for the boys.
The final match was against Litherland Moss and once again the team played excellent football resulting in a victory, with Lucas scoring the winner.
Another close tournament for the team where one poor result cost us the chance to go through to the semi-finals. Once again they played attractive, quality football and looked as good as any team in the competition. They should remember that half the team is made up of younger boys and on another day they could easily have progressed.

Solar Eclipse
Tue 24 Mar 2015Friday saw a momentous occasion, the first Solar Eclipse to hit our shores since 1999. Although it was a cloudy day, it did nothing to dampen the spirits of our excited children, who had the opportunity to view to eclipse using special viewing glasses and followed it live in their classrooms.

North of England Finals

The day out to the finals began back at Farnborough Road as players and their families boarded the coach on a bright sunny spring morning. The team were proud to be representing Merseyside and would be competing against 10 other counties representatives: Northumbria, Cleveland, Durham, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, North Yorkshire, Cumbria, South Yorkshire, Lancashire, West Yorkshire.
The afternoon for Farnborough began with Greater Manchester – Denton West End versus Merseyside, however despite both teams best efforts the opening encounter was scoreless.
Next up were St Edwards R.C. from Cleveland who capitalised on an early mistake by the Farnborough defence and went one nil up. The rest of the game saw Farnborough dominate but unable to grab a vital goal.
Third game saw the team playing Valley Garden Middle School from Northumberland and once again going one nil down. However the team showed great resolve and brought the game back to 2-1 with strikes from Lucas and Rico and the team’s first win of the tournament.
Match four against Westbrook Old Hall school, Cheshire was a completely one-sided event with Farnborough dominating throughout the game. Unfortunately despite all their best efforts Farnborough the game finished goalless.
The final match was against the league leaders, who had won all their previous matches, Cotsford Juniors from Durham. Farnborough matched the best team in the group and with a great strike from Oscar recorded and impressive final win for the day.
Unfortunately the boys missed out on progressing to the semi-finals by one point. They had done themselves and Merseyside proud and looked as good as any team in the competition. Tommy Conway had enjoyed deputising for an injured George and absent Bailey and the squad all contributed to the team effort throughout the competition.
They must remember that reaching the finals was a fantastic achievement and that they will have benefitted from the experience.
