  • Come Dine With Me

    Fri 07 Feb 2014
We have enjoyed welcoming Year 3 parents into school over the past few weeks for a ‘Come Dine With Me’ experience. Parents have eaten with their children in the school canteen and this gives them a great opportunity to try the lovely food that is served in our canteen. The feedback from this initiative has been excellent and we hope to run this again in the future. Both schools agreed that Y3 would be the perfect age group for this idea. The infant furniture is a little too small for adults and Y3 children are delighted to welcome their families into school to show them what we do every day!
  • A Special Visitor

    Fri 07 Feb 2014
We welcomed a special visitor to Farnborough Road last Friday. Mr Awad Ibrahim, Headteacher of Alsalam High, Khartoum, Sudan, came to spend the day in our school as part off his partnership with Birkdale High. Mr Ibrahim visited Y6 maths and English, cooked with 3/3, came to Praise Assembly, ate with the children and toured both schools during his visit. We made sure that he left with some presents too. We gave him a school mug, some FRJS pens for his school and most importantly, a Liverpool scarf to wear on his travels! The pictures below show some students at his school. The school uniform makes it look like a military school, but it isn't! School uniform in The Sudan is picked by the government and this one doesn't match a school whose name means 'peace'. It was a great experience to meet Mr Ibrahim and we hope that this will help us build links with this part of Africa in the coming months.
  • Junior Chef Visit

    Fri 07 Feb 2014
Junior Chef at Farnborough Road Every child enjoyed the visit of the Junior Chefs Academy last week. Every child in the school had the opportunity to cook and I hope many of you sampled their Fairtrade tiramisu. The roadshow teaches children lots about healthy eating and cookery skills and they also have lots of fun at the same time. Ask your child about some of the things that they found out during their session. Why not check out some of the Junior Chef recipes on their own website at www.juniorchefsacademy.co.uk. A great half term activity on a rainy day!

  • Assertive Mentoring-Going for Green

    Sun 24 Nov 2013
The staff are all working very hard at the moment to implement our new Assertive Mentoring process.
The children all have a special file which contains details of their progress in reading, writing and maths. We carried out a set of assessments before the holiday which has given every child their own targets for their next step.

In the coming weeks, the following will happen:-
    • All children will be assessed for reading, writing and maths
    • Targets will be generated for every child as a result of this work
    • Your child will have an individual meeting with their teacher later in the month. At this meeting they will have their progress reviewed and their targets will be discussed. There will also be a discussion about their pastoral progress in terms of attendance, punctuality, behaviour, effort,  homework and uniform.
    • The first of our termly reports will be created and this will be the focus of the parent/teacher meetings at the start of December.

Although there is lots to do, we are convinced that this process will help make sure that every child in the school makes outstanding progress during their time in the Juniors.
  • Southport School Council

    Wed 23 Oct 2013
Leah and Louis from our School Council attended a Southport School Council event at Christ the King on Friday 18th October 2013.
The children joined pupils from across the town to talk to representatives from our local community about how our area could be improved. Leaders from the local police, environmental services, health, leisure, media were joined by John Pugh MP. The guests have been invited back to a meeting in July to tell us what they have done as a result of the pupil input.
Well done to our pupils who represented our school brilliantly!
