A fantastic effort in their first match tonight against Ainsdale St John's. The score finished 10-3 to Ainsdale. Some great passing and commitment shown by the whole squad. Looking forward to our next match next Wednesday against Shoreside. Thank you for all the support and lifts from parents.
Multiplication Facts
We had a fantastic Maths Day on Tuesday. All year groups had a carousel of interesting maths activities linked to using and applying the multiplication facts.
We have introduced the times table challenge (bronze, silver and gold) to the children and they will be tested on their facts the first week back after half term:
Bronze for 2,5,10 and 4x
Silver for 3,6,9,and 8x
Gold for 12,7,11x
Please encourage your child to learn the multiplication facts, the "Guide for Parents" has information and activities to support the understanding and retaining of these facts.
Premier League Tournament
On Wednesday 8 players from the A Team headed off to the Liverpool Football Club Academy to compete in the Premier League Competition. They'd even had a shout out from Chris Evans on his Radio 2 Breakfast Show!
Our opening encounter was against Our Lady Mother of Saviour and the boys soon dominated, creating numerous chances but unluckily couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. Finally Kai hit a curling long range shot to break the deadlock, goals from Arthur and Rhys soon followed.
Result: 3-0.
Next up were St.William's. Rhys opened the scoring but St.William's levelled just on half time. The boys responded with a bullet header from Ivo and a second for Rhys.
Result: 3-1
The third game was against St.Nicholas from Liverpool. Once again the boys took the led (Arthur) only to concede just before half time. However the boys buckled down and Kai and Ivo both notched a goal each.
Result: 3-1
Fourth match was against Greatwood who'd traveled all the way from Skipton! Unfortunately for them our boys were really on form and went on a goalfest! Scorers were Ivo(2), Kai, Arthur(2), Joe(2) and Oli who scored the goal of the tournament, a brilliant volley from outside the box which screamed in to the top corner of the goal.
Result: 8-0
Our final match was a winner takes all game against Malvern. The boys conceded early to Malvern and saw Rhys have to leave the pitch injured but undeterred they managed to getvthe score back to 1-1. However in the dying seconds Malvern saw the ball rebound in our area and manged to scramble the ball over the line.
Result: 1-2
Unfortunately the the boys were knocked out of the tournament and were disappointed but they should be very proud of their performances and hopefully learn from the experience.
Farnborough 3-2 Churchtown
Opening team
Dan
Joe N Arthur
Joe F Rhys Jamie
Eric
The boys responded well to the previous days disappointment at Liverpool Academy by playing some excellent football, creating a raft of chances, hitting the post twice and the Churchtown keeper and Defender Henry blocking anything goalward bound. Arthur finally broke the deadlock with a left fotted strike and Eric made it two slotting it calmly past the keeper.
Second Line-up:
Callum
Kai Jamie
Joe F Eric Oliver
Ivo
This game saw end to end football, with both teams attacking at one moment and having to defend the next. Callum pulled of some impressive saves and Captain Joe made it 3 nil to Farnborough when he smashed the ball into the back of the net, seconds after he had had a previous effort saved. Churchtown responded making it 3-1 breaking through the Farnborough defence. Then followed a Farnborough effort smash into the Churchtown crossbar only to rebound upfield and Churchtown broke to make it 3-2.
Third Line-up
Dan/Callum
Joe Kai
Oliver Rhys Arthur
Ivo
Once again Farnborough seized the initiative and attacked Churchtown. A combination of post, crossbar, goalkeeper and defender (another Henry) prevented the home team from scoring and with nerves frayed on the touchline supporters and manager counted down to the final whistle.
Both teams saw the final whistle blow with no further score and every player should be proud of the manner and spirit the match had been played.
Well done all players concerned.
Year 5 had a brilliant time at Space Camp on Friday evening.
They played games, took part in space quizzes, make 'glove aliens' and learnt about the stars in our Planetarium. They also had a camp fire under the night sky to finish.
A great time was had by all!
Thanks to the staff team who made it possible.
Farnborough 6 - 2 Norwood
The opening third saw an open match with both teams attacking and defending, the keepers were busy in each goal! - Callum tipping several over the bar and Kew's keeper responding with blocks and saves. Farnborough grew in confidence, with Oli, Eric and Arthur all coming close but failed to break through.
The next third saw Joe Flint break the deadlock, coming close with one run down the wing and then seizing on a poor kick by the keeper, Joe calmly slotted home his first goal of the season. However moments later saw Kew break near the edge of the Farnborough box. Their striker took a shot, which Dan had covered in the Farnborough goal but a huge deflection saw the ball roll past Dan on the opposite corner to his dive! 1-1.
Joe was having a blinder on the right wing and his final break saw his shot rebound off the post and Oliver smashed it in with his left. 2-1 Farnborough!
The final period saw Farnborough slowly take control of the game and Eric found himself in the right place to poke in the third for Farnborough. Kew didn't allow their heads to drop and with their goalie keeping them in the game with some stunning saves the home team broke to get their second of the match.
This only spurred Farnborough on with Joe blazing over the bar and hitting the post again. Rhys took command of the centre of the pitch and smashed in two goals from outside the box to put Farnborough 5-2 up.Eric rounded off the evening with a confident finish for his second of the match.
Special mention to the Kew Woods keeper who was superb all matchj and Martin Melyov who stepped into his brother's (injured at lunch time) boots putting in an assured couple of shifts in defence for the A Team.
