Farnborough A Team entered the tournament as defending Southport and Merseyside Liverpool Cup champions - no pressure then!!
Farnborough 1 - 0 Norwood
Our opening group game against Nowood B saw the team completely dominate the 7 minute match but were frustrated as they failed to take numerous chances. Finally deadlock was broken by Rhys as he cut into the box and his deflected shot made it 1-0. Our keeper Callum didn't actual touch the ball and our defence spent most of the game on the halfway line. 3 points in the bag!
Farnborough 3 - 0 St.Lukes
Second match saw a similar pattern of domination by Farnborough against St.Lukes, however this time the boys were able to capitalize on their chance with Ivo scoring the first and Oli scoring a further 2.
Farnborough 1 - 0 Linaker A
The final group game saw Jamie score his first goal of the competition which proved to be decisive and give the team a 100 percent record in their group and not a goal conceded.
Semi-Final
Farnborough 3 - 0 Norwood
A re-match of last Friday's league game saw Farnborough take on Norwood in the semi-final. With Rhys confined to the side-lines through injury, the team had to re-shuffle positions which saw Arthur moving wide on the left. This seemed to work well with Arthur scoring 2 before half-time and Arthur sealed the victory with another clean strike to grab himself a hat-trick and a place in the final.
Southport Schools' Liverpool Cup Final
Farnborough 2-0 Our Lady of Lourdes
A tense final saw another re-shuffle with the starting line-up of Callum in goal, Joe and Kai at the back, Will central, Oli and Arthur wide and Ivo playing up front. With Farnborough dominating the final, OLOL were forced to tackle hard and defend to their best. However the ball broke on the edge of the box and Arthur hit an incredible left shot that smashed into the top right hand corner of the goal.
This led to OLOL pushing hard for an equaliser and Jamie was able to pounce on a mistake at the back to make it 2-0. OlOl went on the offensive and Daniel was to provide the moment that turned the match when he pulled off a wonder save from the Our Lady's striker, he followed this up a minute later with another fine save to deny OLOL.
Moments later the whistle blew and Farnborough were crowned champions!
Congratulations to every member of the squad who all contributed to our victory. Special mention to Rhys Graham who became the first player to win this tournament 3 times!
A Team versus Norwood
A new season, a new set of players for the Farnborough A Team, with ten new faces alongside the veterans Rhys Graham and Arthur Weights.
The opening line-up saw Dan Colton in goal, with Kai Fletcher and Arthur in defence, Rhys in the centre of midfield, Ivo Melyov and Oliver Wilson taking up wide positions and Jamie Molyneux as the front man.
The team began with some excellent passing moves and a lovely opening goal off the season by debutant Jamie. The Norwood keeper had a made a number of fine saves prior to the opening goal. Norwood responded by scoring two themselves, however Kai stuck with his left foot to make it 2-2 and then followed up with a superb header from a corner to make it 3-2 at the end of the first period.
The line-up for the second period was:
Callum Rollin in net, Will Sumner and Joe Nuttall in defence, Eric Thompson centre mid, Jamie still playing up front supported by Arthur and Joe Flint on the wings.
Once again Farnborough took the play to the home team and created a number of the chances and it was Kai, having come on for Jamie, who completed his hat-trick to open the scoring in the second period. Joe Nuttall made it 5-3 ith a screamer from outside the box, meeting a ball played back to him from a corner.
The final period saw Oli open his account with two left foot shots and Ivo contributing one himself. Norwood created chances of their own and managed to score a further two goals. The game finished with Eric, now playing up front scoring 2 goals to make the final score 10-4 to Farnborough. These were not Eric's first goals for the A team as he scored a hat-trick when guesting for the team in a league game while he was in Year 3.
A fabulous start to the season with the team showing great team work, skill and spirit. Here's looking forward to a season full of memories.
On Saturday 16th July 2016 a group of children form year 5 and Year 6 running club attended Hesketh Park, Park Run. Park run is set up for children and adults of all abilities. It is a timed 5k event.
In the last half term we have been working on our pace in running club, running laps each week and increasing a few laps each week. As a celebration of the end of term the children were invited to take part in Park Run, with myself and a small group of parents. I was so impressed with the children, they gave it their all and every child completed the park run. It was a great run and a great opportunity for the children, for some it was the first time they had run this distance. Every child was presented with a medal at the end as a celebration of all they had achieved throughout the weeks at running club and for finishing it off with the 5k park run.
Id like to take this opportunity to thank the children for their commitment to running and to the the parents who came and helped on Saturday morning! Here's hoping for the same commiment next year! Keep running
Friday saw lots of changes at Farnborough Juniors as Taryn in Y6 became our Head for the Day following an election process involving all of the school.
Taryn visited all of the classes awarding prizes and head teacher's awards for good behaviour and hard work. She had a busy day meeting The Mayor of Sefton, touring prospective teacher trainee candidates around the school and holding a whole school assembly.
Taryn was an extremely popular choice with both pupils and staff. She put her promises into action during the day which saw the children having afternoon play, enjoying more football than usual and there are plans to watch a film next week whilst enjoying drinks and ice pops. She also kept the staff happy with biscuits and a new coffee maker.
Mr Antell needs to watch his back if he wants to keep his job; Taryn was amazing!
On Wednesday evening we were invited to attend The Rotary Club Service Above Self awards at The Royal Clifton Hotel. The awards night is held to recognise the contribution of local primary schools to the community, charities, helping others and the environment.
Our school was represented by members of our school council. The children were entertained by a magician and enjoyed a delicious buffet.
Farnborough Road Junior School were awarded a Highly Commended Certificate for all our hard work across all categories. This is a fabulous achievement by all our children, parents and staff.
Thank you to The Rotary Club for a fantastic evening.
Years 3 & 4 have had another successful year with Running Club!
Apart from having lots of fun each Thursday with various activities. We also have built up the stamina of our little runners who through their dedication and commitment are now able to run 1 mile.
We took a small group of children from both years 3 & 4 to Stanley High School for a Cross Country Competition, where they ran and gave their best.
We are so proud of all children in our club and they make sure that Mrs Lowery and Mrs McDade always have a giggle at their antics(e.g beating Mrs Lowery on the space-hoppers!)
Looking forward to another fun filled year ahead.
What a fantastic week we had once the rain disappeared! The week beginning 27th June was a sports themed week for Farnborough Road, and what a great way to celebrate it. For the first time at Farnborough Road we staged the Race for life. Children all had to walk, jog or run 5 laps of the playground, this was equal to them running a mile! Every child was rewarded with a medal! For some children this was the first medal they had received- what an achievement for some! It was a great atmosphere, with other classes cheering each other on and staff joining in running and walking with the children. Children were asked to donate a £1 or raise money through being sponsored. I was overwhelmed at the amount the children managed to raise, with lots of children choosing to get sponsorship! A special mention must go to Jake Havers in 5/4 who raised an astonishing £150 alone. In total we raised £958.15. Well done to everyone involved and I hope the children enjoyed it as much as I did! Over the 4 days we managed to run a total of 17miles for cancer research and gave out over 480 medals! I hope this will become a regular event in the Farnborough calendar.
Thanks to the parents for supporting this event.
Mrs Ireland
To celebrate our love of reading, we all brought our favourite book into school and had a 'Reading Picnic'.
It was brilliant!!
We are delighted to announce that Taryn in Y6 has been elected 'Head for a Day' following the elections in school. Her campaign was very successful and she has now met with Mr Antell to tell him of her plans for the big day.
She has decided the following:-
On Friday, our girls' team took on a number of Southport schools in a cricket tournament. There were some really good sides, but the girls showed that practice makes perfect. All of the training that they had done paid off and they won every game they played, with powerful fours and huge sixes hit all around the ground. Well done girls, you should all be really proud of yourselves.
Thank you to all of the parents who came to support and help with lifts, it would not happen without you!
